Dear Year four teachers,
Welcome to National Science Week for Year four. In week 8 when we are having our own St Emilie's Science Week I will be working with your students to plant seed potatoes provided by Fresh Potatoes WA. Please take plenty of photos of our planting experience. Another idea is to make some Potato Pancakes with your students.

Planting Instructions
- Leave your potatoes in a warm, dry, light place to sprout
- lant seed pototoes with the shoot pointing up.
- Seed Potatoes are to be planted 15cm below the soil and 30cm apart
- Cover your potatoes with more soil
- Fertiliser must be slightly below and to the side of the seed, it cannot touch the seed or roots otherwise it will burn
- Growth from planting to die down will take approx 4 & ½ months (14-16 weeks)
- Once the plants start dying off they can be harvested, they don’t need to be completed dead
- Soil must be most, don’t over water
- A little water more often is better than a lot of water less often
- If it is not raining, water approx every 2nd day
